Ignacio Espaņol lectures on Environemtal Impact Assessment, Landscape Planning and the effects of major public works on the Landscape at the Higher Technical School of Civil Engineering (ETSICCP) in Madrid Polytechnic University (UPM). He got his Ph.D. in Strahclyde University (Glasgow) in 1987 and became a Senior Lecturer at ETSICCP, Madrid in 1997. He has a wide professional experience which includes, among many others, the environmental impact statements of the Barcelona Fourth Ring Road (1997) and of the Sea Water Treatment Plant of Cabo de Gata (1998). His current areas of research are centered on Strategic Environmental Assessment, the planning of water resources and Impacts of major infrastructural works on the landscape. He has published widely on those issues and, most recently (1998), a guide for landscape impact assessment.
